With a form factor designed to match that of the typical low-tech water cooler, Aquarius Brands has brought high tech and and high science to the kitchen with the AquaBoy® Pro II air-to-water generator, a standalone appliance that literally converts air into highly purified drinking water.

At the 2017 NAHB International Builders’ Show in Orlando, we visited with the Aquarius Brands team, and chatted with Reid Goldstein, an executive vice president with the company. “We see this as a high-end luxury appliance for the home,” said Goldstein as he described the inner workings of the new product in their booth at the show, where the entire staff had donned white lab coats. “The AquaBoy requires no installation, and simply plugs into the wall outlet and begins generating water from the air,” continued Goldstein. “We are able to deliver both hot and cold water streams, which are selectable from the LED touchscreen display.”

As Goldstein continued to describe the inner workings of the machine, Paisley Papineau, a marketing assistant with the company, provided us with fresh water samples drawn directly from the AquaBoy spigot. The water was refreshingly tasteless and crystal clear—precisely how one should expect their water supply to be—and was comparable to the water quality we get day-to-day from our rainwater harvesting system in the Digitized.House Zero Energy Living Lab.

The AquaBoy Pro II begins generating water by drawing in room air though the first stage of a 7-stage filtration system, a HEPA filter. Air then flows over stainless steel coils that have been cooled with a compressor and coolant, causing condensation to occur from the vapor in the air and and thereby generating water.

The system can generate and store up to 2 to 5 gallons of water per day, which is further purified by a UV lamp in the lower tank, a sediment filter, a pre-carbon filter, an ultra-fine membrane filter, a post-carbon filter, then finally a secondary UV lamp in the upper tanks before delivering fresh water to the spigot.

As the 2017 International Builders’ Show drew to a close, the product was awarded the Best in Show award, the event’s pinnacle award achievement, as well as the Best Kitchen Product award.
