What did happen with RFID? Everything was headed in that direction with the Walmart mandate and many of the big companies working towards implementing the technology. RFID Standards, RFID Interrogators, RFID Passive and Active Tags... lots of activity.

But it was never implemented at item level in the time table that was projected by the companies that were working with the MIT Auto-ID Center. It did lead to the "Internet Of Things" concept.

So Micromem is at fault because the big companies changed their mind and dropped the implementation of RFID?

There was three projects that were approved with BAE Systems (main contractor) that would utilize Micromem's sensors. Although they were approved, the money to do them was never allocated, so the projects were shelved. It was called "Budget Sequestration" and affected many companies and projects. Of course, Micromem was at fault.

I agree that some of the rhetoric coming from Micromem is a bit much at times, but the practice of promoting a company's products, services, etc is done by all of them. Have you ever read a Press Release that stated "Our company is not a leader in our industry and we do not have solutions to take the world into the next millennium. We are below average"? That sure would attract investors and clients.
