Every brokers have different %%% premiums depending on how much shares they are holding in their 'house'. Any marginal accounts, they are allowed to "borrow" shares for other's to short, without the person's acknowledgement/permission since it is a margin account. When all shares are held tight, and the shorts are owing shares to fill their covered calls....they will need to 'buy back' whatever the asking price is in the market. The loss can be sky high....

Basic 'Short Trading' definition is borrowing shares to sell at current price. Anticipating that the PPS will drop, and buy back shares to fill the borrowed shares. If one doesn't have enough money to buy back the shares they have borrowed?....I guess they are fked...
