April 20-I didn't have much energy this morning. Maybe waking up around 5:30 had something to do with it. I knew I had my work cut out for me. It was get the manure day. But first, I decided to put in the last 6 Green Syrian lettuce plants from the greenhouse. Will it be too late for them?

I took one each of four varieties of lettuce to the glass shop. That's four more out of the bed, at least.

There was still an hour before heading for the Uhaul up the street, so I up potted some seedlings, including the first Precoce d'Argentueuil asparagus. It had already made a root. Good thing I up potted when I did. I'm still learning as I go about growing asparagus from seed.

It was a long, laborious afternoon. I drove to Bobby's stable for 50 3-gallon buckets of manure four times. 200 buckets, filled and emptied 200 times. But it was worth it. I can spend the next couple days putting in started plants all day long.

When I returned home I checked the cups in the window sill. Another asparagus seed had germinated. They're slow, I've learned, and uneven. But it will be worth it. The crowns will have deep rich soil in which to grow.

Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
