Ok so I received more information about this PR. I asked some questions and they answered it promptly.

Thanks for reaching out to us and I’d be happy to try to address your confusion on the last PR.

To your first question, will we be getting material back?

Yes we are getting the materials back, but, the first batch of cocoons was already reeled into finished silk thread. The challenge we faced was they missed their estimated timeline by months and their cocoon to thread yield was very low. We didn’t get as much thread as we should have from the amount of material we sent them. This will require us to produce additional cocoons we have not originally planned for in our timeline.

As to single filament testing,

No this was not part of the original contract. Under the contract we were to provide them with testing results from single filament testing, but not the fibers themselves. During a recent meeting they were pleased with the performance results we were seeing and asked for fibers to do some independent testing as well.

Knitting timeline,

The batch of thread from the silk reeling company that we should be getting back soon is expected to be sent to Warwick mills to start producing the knit shootpack samples. The knitting equipment can be set up with a smaller amount of material than a woven fabric requires. Having coordinated our strategy forward with our Army customer, we will start with the knit samples to get materials for testing as quickly as possible while we wait on additional materials to complete the woven test samples.

New Equipment,

We did not purchase a reeling machine, we purchased a machine that processes the cocoons and prepares them for reeling. If you happened to watch the Ruptly TV video you saw a small green machine that was cleaning the cocoons. This week we are installing a commercial scale version of this machine that is rated to process up to 600kgs of cocoons per hours, about 600 times the amount that small machine could do. Our short term plan is to continue to use third party skilled experts for the reeling of our Dragon Silk cocoons into finished thread.

I hope that helps square away at least a little of the confusion. PR’s are always tricky because of the limitation in length. I’m hoping to provide a more detailed progress update for Q1 in the Spider Sense that should be out on the 28th.
