What does 420 mean?
The term "four-twenty" (written "420") comes from a group event in the early 1970s which, over time, spread as slang (by marijuana users) for marijuana itself or its consumption (originally to disguise the nature of what was being discussed from the uninitiated or those who might take offense). Since "four-twenty" can be interpreted not only as a time of day (either in the early morning or late afternoon), but also as a day of the year (April 20th, or 4/20 in US date format), it developed into an unofficial "universal" day or time for users to consume marijuana.
