Sauer’s Coming Lithium Battery Revolution

You probably know about our WindCutter turbine, now undergoing certification testing. We expect that our certified turbine will beat competition in reliability, cost-effective power generation, and include some first-ever ‘bells and whistles.’ For example, we’ll have a chip that automatically shuts everything down if winds get too strong, spinning the turbine too fast.

But we’re also working on something else that will have a profound effect on our company’s growth and direction. It’s an affordable lithium ion battery that we can manufacture here at our new facility. Here’s the significance…

A wind-powered turbine produces electricity 24 hours a day, whenever there’s wind. On the one hand, people use more power at certain times than others. For example, during the day for air conditioning, if there’s hot weather, and also between 4 pm – 10 pm for general use. On the other hand, there’s little use at night when there could be higher winds, when more energy can be produced.

All of which brings us to ‘net metering’, the process by which excess power that your turbine has generated is fed into the grid. You’re then credited with this energy for use during peak periods when the price of power is higher.

But there’s more to the story.

Our Advanced Lithium Ion Battery

Which brings us back to the lithium battery, and what you should know:

First, a lithium battery can partially free you from grid-dependence. You can store your own home-created energy and use it when you want. Even without your own turbine, you can take energy off the grid when it’s cheap, store it, and use it during peak periods, when the cost per watt is higher.

Second, the cost of a heavy-duty lithium battery is dropping, as Tesla’s Elon Musk has been promising. Right now, a battery for home use is costly per kilowatt, but that’s changing, quite quickly.

Our advanced lithium batteries will be cheaper, thanks to our low overhead and some nifty innovations.

What Will This Mean For Sauer Energy?

Plenty.

Lithium batteries will be a major industry because energy storage will rank right behind alternative energy creation. That will be true for electric vehicles, of course. But let’s not forget homes, farms, factories and off-the-grid locations.

You want proof? Look no further than Nevada, where Elon Musk is building his colossal $5 billion gigafactory to open next year. It will manufacture the batteries for electric vehicles — all makes, not just the Tesla — and he’s anticipating a sizable export business.

How will Sauer Energy fit into this emerging energy ecosystem? Very well, because lithium ion batteries for small wind generators differ from automotive batteries. We’ll be helped by three key advantages:

First, Sauer will be one of the first to enter this ‘small wind’ storage market, making it easier to establish brand recognition and dominance.

Second, being a manufacturer of small wind turbines will give us special expertise in the lithium storage area. We aim to be the premier developer.

Third, lithium battery research is underway at our facility in two specific areas: fast charging technology and simplifying the manufacture. And a less-complicated battery = a lower price.

So, yes, our name is Sauer Energy, but our vision covers energy + storage.

Again, thank you for all your support. Big things lie ahead, and I’ll be in touch!

Best regards,

Dieter Sauer
