Just curious but why couldn't they? All you would have to do is drill out cement, connect what we call an overshot to pull out old production casing, drill the vertical, build the curve, set intermediate casing, cement and drill the lateral. That's exactly what I would do if I had old crappy wells that needed to be plugged. Surface casing and surface vertical is already done. Just saying.
