I work with people in Shanghai and when I asked them about the number 4, they told me they do not like the number 4 because the pronunciation of 4 in Chinese sounds like "death". They try to avoid 4 when they change a date, phone number or a car number. However it seems they do not mind the month of April. From what was explained to me, Chinese people, especially businessmen like 8, because the pronunciation sounds like "get rich" in Chinese.
