chipguy, FYI, a little birdie in IAG told me last year that Intel won't introduce a new speed grade unless it is yielding at least 15%.

You are talking about P4 in particular or the whole Intel strategy? If P4, I'm not surprised. It's well known that 3 Ghz P4 can be overclocked to 3.5 Ghz without exotic cooling solutions. They are more limited by the heat dissipation than raw clock speed. So I'm pretty sure that well over 15% of P4's are binning over 3.2 Ghz now. Maybe even 30%.

As Opteron is not that heat bound, I think 5% bin must be enough. There is a way to tell. Do you know what is the price of 2 Ghz part? Is it on sale now? If the price is less than twice of 1.8 Ghz part then AMD is clearly getting close to 15% binsplits.

One more point, we know that IBM is consuming at least 2,000 2 Ghz parts this quarter. So, AMD must have at least 5,000 chips coming. They must bin better than 5% to collect this amount.
