Generally you want to see the bid support close to the ask. Say for instance a ticker is at 007 and

Good: You have 7 million bidding 0006 and 5 million ask 0007 that would be good "support" with 7 million bidding just under or even if it was at 0005 on the bid.

Not so good: 100k at 0006, 100k at 0005 and 7 million at 0004. The real support in this scenario is at 0004 or 45% under the current 0007 price.

Overall, you want to see the bid trail the ask price and have a good enough # of shares on the bid to offer you an exit if needed.
