And as per your attached chart, yes there appears to be trivial backwardation In the WEEKLY VIX futures.

I rarely look at them and the TVIX algorithm looks only at the MONTHLY futures.

I'll assume that you are familiar with VMAX and VMIN which began trading at $25 on 5/2/16.

VMAX has decayed to $4.85 since; VMIN is $34.50 but has enjoyed a 2:1 forward split!
