YEP, his name was on the top list->Archie Miller named new IU basketball coach

Indiana announced Saturday that Dayton coach Archie Miller will be its new basketball head coach. A news conference is scheduled for Monday afternoon.

The 38-year-old Miller is considered one of the nation's top young coaches and has a 139-63 record. He was 2017 Atlantic 10 coach of the year and has guided Dayton to four-straight NCAA tournament appearances, including a 2014 Elite Eight appearance.

"While there was great interest in this position, Archie Miller was on my short list from the very beginning," IU athletic director Fred Glass said in a news release. "The more I learned about him, the more convinced I became that he is the coach we need to meet our high expectations for many years to come...

"Archie is a proven leader, proven winner, proven recruiter, and a proven player developer with a defense-first mentality that will help us win championships. Perhaps most importantly, he understands and embraces the special stature of Indiana University basketball and the critical relationship it must have with its former players, Indiana high school players and programs, and the entire State of Indiana."

Miller has built Dayton into a consistent power in the Atlantic 10, winning regular-season conference titles in each of the last two years. He did it this year largely without the help of Josh Cunningham, one of his best players, who missed much of the season through injury. Dayton has picked off its share of high-major opponents lately, either in the NCAA tournament, or in nonconference play.

He also boasts excellent bloodlines — his father is a legendary high school coach in Pennsylvania, his brother Sean is the coach at Arizona, and Archie spent time under Thad Matta at Ohio State.
