It has always been my opinion that "shorting" should be illegal. Value of a company's stock is meant to increase and hold value. As investors, we want companies we hold stock in, to increase in value. Shorting of stock is the complete opposite of this, and can actually drive all investors out and bankrupt a company, if it goes to the extreme.... Especially the small, upstart companies.
