The technology is fine. Has been in use in one form or another
ever since Newton discovered the nature of light. If ELF had been kept in the Lab, and the landmines brought in for test, it would have likely been a success.

The failure was when it tried to interface with the outside world.

The LAB could not accomplish what management claimed for it.
management needed something to capture the public's imagination, a cause that the humanitarian public could seize upon as a thing desired, and likely to be revolutionary. Yhey claimed, (very prematurely) to have it in ELF..The LAB fell short.

They are now trying to use UV instead of XRAY but the same basic problem still exists. They have to bring it out of the Lab and make it work in all kinds of real world conditions.

Or as in Valimed, isolate the liquid test object by putting the sample in a transparent cuvette and lower it into the isolation chamber. That is fine for Valimed.. it is used in a pharm lab anyway. But the meth gun cannot be used in an isolation chamber.

ELF depended on a "plume" of escaped gasses from buried land mines. This plume does not always occur, and when it does, the interference from the sun and other sources of electromagnetic radiation was to much for ELF to overcome.

The METH gun, except in exceptional conditions, will likely face the same limitation.. I say "likely".. we wait and see.
