“As the company does grow, we’ll be growing more in the Buffalo area,” said Michael Hershfield, vice president for sales and marketing. “We’re on a pretty intensive growth plan in the next few years and we’re looking at building our Buffalo operations even more. That’s our focus with the labs we have there.”

ZeptoMetrix, a private life sciences firm, is focused primarily on diagnostic tools and testing for virus specimens, providing inactive specimens and cultures for such deadly diseases such as SARS, HIV and tuberculosis as well as Zika.

The 33,000-square-foot building at 847 Main, formerly occupied by Smartpill Corp., is owned and operated by Buffalo Niagara Medical Corp. The site also currently houses Buffalo Manufacturing Works, a $45 million initiative supported by the state through the Buffalo Billion program. ZeptoMetrix would prefer to have first rights to expand into the space if or when the manufacturing initiative moves elsewhere.

“We’ve spoken with people regarding the Smartpill building and taking more space as it becomes available,” Hershfield said. “As the company does grow, it will be growing in the Buffalo area. But the number of square feet and what we’re looking for, the market will tell us what our needs will be and what kind of space we’ll need. Nothing’s set in stone.”
