They don't need to at all, it's just a way for the MM and shorts to make more money .... When there is a sustained gap, it's called A breakaway gap that occurs in the very early stages of a major price up trend. These gaps are initially interpreted as area gaps. Only after a sustained trend does a chartist recognize the breakaway gap for what it was.... ICLD ....!!
