ot - definitely sniffers out there.. (regular email uses plain text and not encrypted so dont send sensitive info via regular email.. even your telephone can be a source of trouble..) but its like anything else.. thieves are like electricity.. they follow the path of least resistance.. Roadrunner provides an excellent firewall.. I have my router password protected and allow only authorized machines.. I change my brojerage acct password every 30 days or so and use combinations of letters (upper and lower case) and numbers.. ther are things that you can change as a more advanced user not like not allowing NetBios to broadcast your address.. common sense stuff like more complex passwords , reliable firewall and antivirus are generally adequate protection.. using a router serves as a hardware firewall even if you are not using a network.. make it inconvenient and they will move on..
