I was under the impression that 'molasses' is derived from sugar cane (slavery triangle from history). You know, Great Britain/US buys sugar cane, makes molasses then Rum - which in tern drives (purchases slaves). You know, the slave trade in the 1700 & 1800's.

Where are you and your neighbor located? In the Caribbean? Very deep South? Very interested in your reply.
