ongressman LaHood's Staff Backs Homeland Security's Funding Trident's ProMag
August 06, 2003 07:31:00 AM ET

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 2003--The Peoria-based staff of Congressman Ray LaHood (R-Ill), Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Subcommittee On Terrorism and Homeland Security has presented Trident's ProMag rare-earth permanent magnet-powered quick sealing system to the Department of Homeland Security for potential funding in order to enable the nation's 31,000-plus fire departments to purchase ProMag systems as part of the regular equipment package carried on fire engines and trucks. The systems, which have received enthusiastic endorsements from the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Chicago Fire Department, would give to the fire departments of the nation the ability to quickly and inexpensively seal leaks and ruptures in storage tanks and pipelines (among many applications) caused by terrorist activity. The ProMag system employs super powerful magnets to affix leak and rupture sealing patches, even when the leak or rupture involves hazardous or corrosive materials. ProMag's value to the safety of the public and the environment is considerable. No other device or product available today can equal ProMag's performance.

Arland Dunn, Chairman and CEO of 21st Century Technologies, Inc. TFCT said, "The average fire department in this country operates 2 (and a fraction) fire trucks/engines per department. Trident, our wholly-owned subsidiary, will equip them with ProMags, greatly increasing their effectiveness as anti-terrorism tools, working to protect the citizens and security interests of this country. The only problem has been the general lack of money. The availability of federal funding to the individual fire departments to purchase ProMags will be a wise investment in our future. Tank farms, pipelines, railroad tank cars are all easy and prime targets for terrorist activities. The ready availability of ProMag through our fire departments enhances our well-being as a nation. We are ready to respond to the call of the Bravest of our country to provide to them our terrorist-blunting ProMags."

Commenting further on Congressman LaHood's Peoria-based staff's interest in ProMag, Chairman Dunn said, "They saw quickly the value of providing federal funding to our fire departments to enable the acquisition of ProMags. Our business will benefit, obviously. And so will our Nation's guard against terrorist actions on our soil."

21st Century's Trident Technologies Inc. manufactures two versions of its magnet-powered sealing devices; ProMag, designed for land-based applications, and SeaPatch, designed for marine applications. Trident's powerful magnetic seal systems are becoming established in the marketplace. Among its users are some of the world's largest corporations, such as Exxon-Mobil XOM, CSX CSX, Conoco COP, Dow Chemical DOW and the Union Pacific Railroad SP.

Trident's rare-earth magnets have been acquired for custom applications by the United States Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command's (NAVSEA) Emergency Ship Salvage Material (ESSM) http://www.essmnavy.net. The ESSM system is a mixture of bases and other facilities that provide ship salvage, pollution control and engineering equipment on an emergency basis. Additionally, the Canadian Military Authority has acquired custom-designed Trident rare-earth magnets on an ongoing basis for confidential applications.

"The assistance of Congressman LaHood's good offices to ProMag will be of great help in our efforts to bring these products to the place in the market which they deserve," said Mr. Dunn. "Trident and 21st Century are entering into an exciting period of beneficial growth, ignited by the Department of Homeland Security and our nation's need for enhanced security."
