I seriously doubt this is the case, though -- this is on the Ryzen CPU core.

The bottom line is that while Ryzen is good at some multithreaded benchmarks, most office workloads and gaming are clearly better on Intel platforms right now.

Pretty much. AMD has put together a solid, competent CPU core and they're in a better position now than they were pre-Ryzen, but the reality is that Intel has some pretty straightforward ways to respond even with the current BDW-E lineup (they need to cut prices).
