It's a control thing with the GOP. I don't think it's so much they don't want recreational marijuana because it's bad for people- they don't want it to be up to the states because they don't have as much control that way.

They also don't have as much control if people are happy and just smoking away- eating away, whatever. It's like that time Bloomberg was trying to regulate the size of soft drinks served in NYC because he was worried about obesity getting out of control.
