“Next generation technologies” is the best way to describe this role. There comes a time in a commercial endeavor when you have to draw a line in order to get “Gen 1” to the market. Yet, there are so many other possibilities and technologies that still need to be pursued and developed further for the “Next Gen” of the system.
My take is that they are finished with Gen 1, ie. their version of a "design freeze". New hires will be to do "Next generation".
