oh, absolutely - i mean that's quite clear that getting content to TV is the goal - sorry if that wasn't coming across in my post.. i thought i covered that (and the device issue) in my first line "They really seem to be wanting to chase the NetFlix market - but for the most part their service addresses those people with a) fast connections; and b) enough investment in technology to get the video stream and surround audio to their TV."

and i know about the devices, i own one! but, that kinda adds a lot to the cost of getting your subscrition going, quite a lot to ask of someone looking to reduce their costs? it's like saying.. hey, drop netflix, but bust out $100 now to replace functionality you already have in your DVD player...

people usually don't like "hidden costs" - hence my suggestion for a co-marketing plan to get some units moving into houses that don't already own them ;) - i think it makes more sense to do it this way in the long run as once you've amortized the cost of the device to get the content to your TV you're golden - but people usually see the upfront costs and opt for monthlies instead..

they have a good play here, just not as consumer-friendly as it first seems... but it's early days, i am betting they have a 5 year plan.

oh, here's the rub on those wireless devices etc.. they are used to play a file that you already have on your computer - a complete file.. the PowerGrid application streams the media, so unless your wireless device somehow automatically calls and starts the powergrid application to get the media streaming.. you can't use it! their whole strategy is about "pick and start streaming immediately" .. but since they're using their own format (which looks to be based on BitTorrent.. if you run PowerGrid you'll see that) then how will that be supported.. come to think of it, how will you browse the media on your tv to pick the titles to start streaming them - sounds like you'll need to go to your computer and download the whole thing first !? but that goes against their whole selling point..

anyhoo, was just thinking out loud - thanks for your reply though! :)
