More:

'Serving thousands of customers through a growing network of retail locations, Industrial Finishes & Systems is the leader in automotive paint, equipment and supplies distribution. We source leading-edge products from around the world, and our team has decades of experience with products, processes and techniques to increase customers’ efficiency and profits.

During 1956-1957, Stuart Barr and his soon to be business partner worked as delivery drivers for the Autobody and Paint Supply Company. On April 1, 1958, Stuart and his partner decided to go into business together and purchased the company. The company was a wholesale distributor of auto body supplies with sales of $165,000 per year with one branch and three employees.

In 1967, Barr bought out his partner and became the sole owner of what is now Industrial Finishes & Systems, Inc. In the later 1960’s, Barr applied his knowledge of spray-painting equipment to plywood making. At that time, most mills applied glue to veneer with roll coaters. Barr was determined to spray the glue on to give a more even application. This invention significantly reduced the amount of glue used and improved the product quality by reducing the lower grade products and blows, allowing automation. Barr patented the glue spray system and subsequently formed the Major Machine Division that fabricates glue application machinery for plywood lay-up lines. To this day Industrial Finishes continues to develop solutions for cleaner and safer products to distribute – always keeping the goal of providing customers with the best service and products in mind. Automotive Division

In 1968, Industrial Finishes opened an automotive paint store in Portland, Oregon, and another branch in Roseburg, Oregon in the early 1970’s.

In 1990, the Bend, Oregon store was opened, followed by the acquisition of two more Oregon stores in Gresham and Medford. On April 1, 1996, the 38th anniversary of the company, the purchase of Lewis Distributing established a store in Salem, Oregon. A year later Foster A & F Equipment and Paint Division in Portland was welcomed to the Industrial Finishes family.

In May 2000, Industrial Finishes purchased two additional paint stores: Bay Center Paint Supply in Coos Bay, Oregon and Full Spectrum Auto Paint & Supply in Vancouver, Washington. Eight years later, Industrial Finishes & Systems bought Barrett Paint Supply in Reno, Nevada. June 2011 expanded Industrial Finishes’ spectrum to include Utah, with the purchase of Automotive & Industrial Supply (AIS), adding three branch locations in Ogden, Orem and Salt Lake City. A new location was added in Logan, Utah as a result of the March 2014 acquisition of S & B Automotive Color, Inc.

Industrial Finishes & Systems continued to expand as it entered the northern California market in December 2012 with the addition of Color Supply in Woodland, California. The company expanded its presence in California with the purchase of Talley’s Paint in Napa, California in June 2013, again in August 2016 in Concord, California, and the latest addition of Fremont, California in October 2016. Industrial Finishes & Systems now serves customers in 42 states from 26 locations including 18 retail stores.

Industrial Division

The Industrial Division was created in 1975 in Eugene, Oregon to distribute coated abrasives/sandpaper to plywood and particleboard mills in the Pacific Northwest. It was the second division to be added to Industrial Finishes and Systems, Inc.

In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, when the major wood product companies expanded operations in the southern states, Industrial Finishes was invited by Norton Abrasives to service the South and Southeast markets. In 1982, Industrial Finishes opened a distribution center in Monroe, Louisiana, and in 1995 a distribution center was opened in Martinsville, Virginia.

Today, the Industrial Division is the largest distributor of wide sanding belts in the world for Norton Abrasives. Industrial Finishes has partnered with Norton/Cora and the various plywood, particleboard, and MDF manufacturers for over 25 years. In Spring 2015, the Industrial Division was awarded Norton Company’s prestigious “Coated Abrasive Distributor of the Year” award. In addition, we have partnered with companies like Samuel Strapping, HB Fuller, and Inteplast Group, LTD. to expand our expertise to include packaging, shipping and adhesive products.

Recreational Vehicle Division

Industrial Finishes works closely with its R.V. customers to provide training, Just In Time (JIT) inventory, education and product information. Industrial Finishes has full access to BASF’s lab facilities. We are the only jobber in the United States with this agreement. The purpose is to have the ability to customize products for our R.V. customers, giving us the fastest reaction time in the industry.

AIS

Aerospace/Military Division

With the introduction of Automotive & Industrial Supply (AIS) in 2011, Industrial Finishes began serving the military and aerospace industry. An exclusive military certification made way for Industrial Finishes to become the premier distributor of aerospace and military supplies. AIS is proud to serve the US military as well as customers in Utah and the surrounding local areas and states.
