The shift in tone was warranted. I believe it was poor judgment to take on Cisco and can lead to unintended consequences. It is also poor timing since Cisco is going to increase their efforts on the software side of cybersecurity. That means that Cisco will get a lifetime license out of these proceedings based on minimal sales to date vs. the larger revenue anticipated in the future.
The only reason I can find for poking the bear is they have already decided to shop the company. They will file against anybody an everybody to increase the sales price based on future expected revenue. One of these players can justify a meager $200M to $250M acquisition price just to be the one to own the intellectual property their competitors are utilizing. Could they be orchestrating a bidding war between Symantec and Cisco?
Time will tell.
I did, indeed, watch the presentation. It was cringeworthy. I won't say anything more about it or I might say something nasty.
