I don't think this will happen this time. If so, GE would be the most soulless man in stocks' history. I think in case of the financials not being as good as we expect, the price is not going to tank as previously, to recover very fast the next day. I think that these actual levels of the price are the bottom ,the company is in right direction of making big revenues as a result, among other factors, of the new developments created in the world economy. Always mankind will depend on shipping industry to circulate the goods. Don't forget the waters cover almost 3/4 of earth's surface area.
