I agree with you on the most part with your assessment, even thought it's more complicated than catching a bubble in a fart. There are also other revenue streams available with this process than producing methane into electricity. First most of these companies charge a tipping fee for farmers or companies to bring in their waste. Also the digested sludge can be sold as compost as long as no human sewage was used. The liquid if drawn off properly can be used as an cost effective organic fertilizer which can get premium price versus synthetic fertilizers. They have also developed a process to turn the methane into biodegradable plastics.
