You should realize Market Makers whether on the bid side or ask have orders placed by individuals they represent. Those trades that went off on the bid side today was a market maker filling orders for people buying at the bid instead of the ask.

You often see people commenting about getting filled at the bid quote, I have seen it said here many times :)

Just because a trade goes off at the bid does not mean a market maker is buying no more than when it goes off at the ask that a market maker is selling.

For every trade there is a buyer and a seller, a Market maker only handles the transaction ,
