Czech company involved in fraud on US stock exchange
Prague, April 18 (CTK) - The US's World Wide Cannery and Distribution (WWCD) has taken over a Czech seafood processor that has been under distraint since last December, the Euro OnLine server said today.
WWCD announced in US bourse media last week it had bought 100 percent of Seafood Factory, a project kicked off by Russian Nikolai Nekrasov who had promised to employ up to 100 staff in the Czech plant.
The company, which packaged and sold seafood, employed 40 staff in the first phase after opening its plant in Central Bohemia in 2004. Last year, it allegedly generated revenue topping EUR 14.5 million.
The only staff working at the derelict facility at present are a security guard and his Dobermann pinscher, employed by the bailiff, says Euro.
The Russian investors do not answer calls and the fixed line at the Prague headquarters has been cut off.
"A distraint is under way now. There are several proceedings, and a bankruptcy petition has been filed," bailiff David Koncz told Euro.
WWCD, which evolved from a broker to a seafood dealer, announced the takeover after the closing bell on April 10. The Wall Street News Alert then said the transaction could be very interesting for investors.
The Czech Company Register website says Seafood Factory is facing two distraints worth CZK 16.6 million in total. A bailiff ordered a sale of the company in early March.
