It's not going to be good for Intel's public image if all of its competitors are using "7nm" technology while Intel is trying to field "10nm" technology.

It's just bad public perception. Avg consumer doesn't care about drive currents at different leakage levels, SRAM cells size, gate/metal pitch, materials science advances (like Air Gaps in 14nm). They just don't know and don't care.

All they will know is that TSMC and its customers will be selling 7nm products while Intel is selling 10nm.

They are already going to face a PR nightmare when the first foundry 10nm chips start making it into the hands of customers, and it'll only get worse if Intel 7nm is nowhere in sight when TSMC 7nm will be in the market.

Trust me on this one, Intel really needs to rename 10nm.
