["The larger problem is that along with his seeming ineptness as a CEO, there is a total blackout on how the revenue from MPE is actually being spent (family trips to NYC?). Which means that no serious investors will be interested for the foreseeable future, at least until there's word of a Clipstream contract."]

That certainly isn't the "larger" problem. How the company's revenues are spent one can simply find in its filings, vetted by accountants, just like any other listed company.

If this was a scam as you suggest, it's remarkable how stable the share count has been over the years. I know a few other situations..

The 17 years of Clipstream with nothing to show for it is also an exaggeration. The first product did work and was essentially a different product (in Java, not Javascript) but it got superseded by the free availability of Flash. That happens in business.

Javascript based Clipstream is more recent, and the Javascript/HVEC based is much more recent still.

It does work, as you can see on demo videos here:
http://clipstream.com/showcase.html

Now, whether they can get it to work well enough for everybody by offloading processing to the GPU remains to be seen, but what people seem to have lost track of is that in the meantime, they've build a pretty good video hosting platform that actually doesn't need it to start generating revenue.

Yes, it's a competitive market but it's also fast growing and very big for a company with an $8M market cap, they only need a tiny sliver of it to have a material impact on company finances, and they have a fairly obvious niche where they have many useful contacts and could tailor offerings according to needs.

People also seem to have lost sight of the fact that PlayMPE has increased revenues for three quarters in a row, after a period of (basically bespoke) improvements, and that costs have fallen considerably and it's usability enhanced, opening up a bigger user universe.
