It may be harder but in the end we own the company and not a VC.
That was the point of public stocks in the first place.
It was to let you and I be able to invest in a business.
If they got traditional financing they wouldn't need shareholders.

And I agree with you here, but remember, money like that is only one end-product of good marketing. I still believe that with better marketing we'd have more current market penetration (even if they are superficial) than we do now, all other things being equal.
