This usually comes from people's insecurity about themselves. It has been said, that those who are successful either don't hear such negativity or it pushes them even further. I know that for a lot of people, hearing criticism or negativity gets them down. For me it's the opposite, when people criticize me, or want me to fail, it shows me that they are jealous and that I must be doing something right. It gives me a high. If I wasn't making progress they wouldn't have a reason to care. Growing up in a small town, I was used to hearing people tell me I couldn't or wouldn't achieve something, and then prove them wrong. From then on it has always lit a fire under me. I am definitely at my best and most focused when people wish for me to fail. And the fact that I am like that, seems to drive them even crazier. I believe that if someone is wasting their energy and time trying to hold you back, it means they are jealous and you are a threat to their ego."
