There is nothing better than to watch the consistent and illegal painting of the tape each and every day. For those of you who do not know what painting of the tape is, it is a consistent pattern of placing trades in at the end of the day very close to the close. These are typically extremely small trades which would not make sense to the average person considering the commissions when valuing the total value of the trade. They are entered to record a trade near the close to make it look like the stock closed a certain percentage up or down. Note that most days, the last trade is on the offer and is typically a very small trade to make this stock look like it closed up or flat for the day. I know someone who got into very serious legal trouble with the SEC for doing the same thing. Not a very good idea
