The Cabal: A Brief Tutorial on Who They Are and How They Operate


1. Who are the "shorts"?

Gene once told me there are 4 hedge funds who work together in targeting the company, according to a market-maker.

2. How long have they been "controlling" the stock price?

Since shortly after the open house in July 2014, when the stock price was in the 4- 4 1/2 price range.

3. Why NNVC?

IMO the company fit a computer model and nothing more. They could care less about what the company does or how well it is doing; the primary criteria was the POWER to control the pricing on a daily basis at will.

4. How do they operate?

Totally by computer algorithms.

5. Let me briefly describe the key methods they employ.

a. Crossing stock:

This is a technique to inflate reported volume: remember there are multiple hedge funds working together. To artificially inflate volume they cross from one fund to a sister fund at the same price to make it look like a legitimate trade.

For example, yesterday reported volume was 254,250 shares (from finviz.com) but real-time or actual volume as recorded on nasdaq.com was 150,753 shares. The difference is the crossed shares.

b. Front-running:

Incredibly, the hedge funds computers can "see" a buy or sell order a fraction of a second BEFORE it occurs, giving them time to manipulate the price up or down to their benefit.

For example, in the real-time stream below, look at the sequence starting at 10:31:59 and ending with a buy order for 900 shares at 10:33:50. Perhaps only .0133 cents here per share but done repeatedly adds up.

c. Working inside the spread:

NNVC market makers use a 2 cent spread between the bid and the asked. The algo is programmed to short the asked price one hundredth of a cent under that price; likewise it will buy back stock at the same one hundredth cent above the bid price.

For example, any time you receive a trade confirmation that is not a round cent, you know an HFT (high frequency trader) is "working" that stock.

Yesterday, "newly created shorts" were 77,786 shares (obtained from vmbook.com). These were all buy orders where the sell side of the trade was artificial, meaning borrowed shares instead of a legitimate sell from an actual owner.

d. Pings:

Any time you see 100 share (up to 500 share) round-lot trades, they are created somehow by the Cabal to manipulate the price up or down at will.

For example, looking at 10:22:31 thru 10:32:26 that move in the price from $1.05 to $1.11 was all "pings", so-called, and all FAKE.

e. Multiple prints in the same one hundredth of a second:

The Cabal goes to great lengths to hide large buy orders (15 separate prints of one buy order of 3600 shares at 9:31:22, but naturally does not do so with sell orders (see print of 12,500 shares at 9:43:16).

I hope this tutorial has been helpful to convey the "vise" we are in vis-a-vis our stock price, and have been for the last 2 1/2 years.
