I have tried to relay that but people would rather use the MM's as bad guys to explain why the price is bad.
ECN is what its called(Electronic Communications Network), and a MM very seldom touches personally a stock anymore, buys and sells are are implemented by those algorithms, The MM shown is just who the buy or sell is routed to by the broker the buyer or seller uses.
Company financiers often use certain brokerages that use certain MM's to sell and that is when you see big blocks and often times the ask getting hit but it never uptikks because that MM has a lot of shares and is often more than is shown :)
MMs make money on the spread and as little as GDSI trades no MM will devote time to this stock for sure lol
