Even though safety is most likely a non-issue with inductive charging, that does not mean that the perception of it being unsafe by the consumer will not be big hurdle.

A bigger negative against inductive is that it is not efficient (especially to the green types). 50%-70% of you energy being wasted is no good for them or potentially your pocketbook. and note that the efficiency will decrease more if the device your are charging is not aligned 'optimally' in the magnetic field.

I know the dream is to have an inductive power station that will allow all the portable device in a home or business to continually be charging inductively, but can you imagine how much power will be wasted because the station is broadcasting to an the entire volume of space just to charge a few devices which compared to the volume of a building are orders of magnitude smaller.

Plus, induction charge is always slower than conductive. This is always downplayed in the advertisements. And, it is more expensive

But, inductive charging always beats conductive in non-intrusive applications where the item being charged are internal or must be waterproof like a toothbrush or an internal medical device. you are willing to sacrifice the inefficiencies and cost for function and safety.
