Hi PharmD: Welcome aboard this winner! According to i-hub on any stock's quote page, a bid is the highest price that a player is willing to pay for a stock. And the ask is the price that someone is willing to sell their stock for. But in order for the pps to be moved up, the people who wish to buy the stock, need to buy it at the asking price, and not the bid price. Hence, the phrase & exhortation for any buyers to smack the ask!

Also: If you don't want to drive the price down when you sell any of your shares, sell them on the ask, and NOT the bid! And also, don't whack the bid with large lots if you sell on the bid side, for that will also drive the price down in a hurry, thus screwing all the peeps who are still left in the stock. All of the above is to the best of my learning & knowledge. I hope that this helps. GLTU & GO NECA!
