I think he has really backed himself into a corner.

Either admit to the real estate and every problem that comes along with it or have a very difficult time filing your financial statements unless you can find an auditor who is extremely desperate for money and doesn't read.

If he admits to the real estate, then every financial statement from 2014 on will have to be restated. What a friggin mess!!!!
