With the government "takeover", shareholders were usurped of rights and unable to share in high profitability through dividend distributions because of the illegal seizure. The government has been accused of and did go way past its legal rights as pertains to Fannie and Freddie. So expect new lawsuits in the future unless the government can offer up an acceptable settlement, to the satisfaction of shareholders.
