If I'm not mistaken, defense spending, even with the perceived increase or real increase in terrorism risk, is not significantly greater today than it was in 2000 (especially if you measure by percent of GDP). I'll give you the infrastructure point, but it's not like there was zero spending on infrastructure in 2000. We just happen to be at a point in time where many agree we need to start spending more on infrastructure for a while. What was the level of infrastructure spending in 2000? can we compare that to today? Please do not insult me by saying I need to do my DD. I was merely asking for examples. If we really wanted to compare gvt spending today to the year 2000, we would be most interested in what areas of the budget have increased most, and adjust for inflation, etc. I do not think you have provided those examples. You just mentioned general things that the gvt spends money on every single year and provided no measure of how those general spending examples have increased since 2000. Plus, we could continue to argue the real merits of and need for that additional spending, as well as its effectiveness, even if there was an increase, and we could argue any alternatives to simply adding spending. But I do think we can all agree there is a ton of wasteful spending.
