For anyone who is seriously doubting that the UPS loan will be approved and the new plant will be constructed, please consider what the government of Nigeria has to gain:
Short answer:
(1) A simple, safe, relatively inexpensive (cf. Hydroxea)treatment for a terrible disease that afflicts four million Nigerians;
(2) A corresponding reduction in government funded social and medical programs (because the SCD patients can lead normal, productive lives);
(3) $150,000,000 per year in royalty payments and export fees
(the Nigerian Government's estimate, not mine);
(4) Promotion of biotech as a new industry in Nigeria; and
(5) Significant political "props."
So, anyone wanna bet on whether the loan is made and the plant is finished?
