I've never shorted before, so I could be wrong, but it seems to me shorts can see bottoms alot easier than longs can see tops.
Assuming I am correct, once shorts see the Longs won't let the pps go down any further, they will seriously consider covering, rather than risk being caught in a squeeze.
It only makes sense. Just as we search for a top to sell at, they search for a bottom, and exit promptly.
