In the US, IDC estimated that Chromebooks are already selling better than Macbooks. To Intel, this is chance and threat at the same time.

Absolutely agree that there is going to be a fairly big transition to Chromebooks.

I think the only thing that is holding back Chromebooks vis-a-vis Windows is local storage. If Andromeda (Chrome+Android) can deliver local storage, Chromebooks will be the laptop of choice for the mass market whose requirements are pretty basic in terms of Internet Access + Office Suite. Windows is too complicated and, frankly, an overkill.

Though there are some ARM-based Chromebooks (including Rockchip), Intel has had a good amount of success in pushing Celerons into this market. Not sure what exact CPU features helped Intel do this (processing power, multi-tasking ?), but Intel should stay ahead of ARM-based SoCs to retain and improve its share in Chromebooks.
