I disagree with too many of your criteria to respond realistically. You nixed far too many countries to suit your point. We do more business with countries you call politcally-inviable than we do with Vietnam. Current silk outputs of the countries are irrelevant. KBLB is not making the silk of a nation. It's a niche product for specific needs.

At the end of the day, you need mulberry (purchasable or growable) and appropriate climate.

There are countries and even US cities that fit those criteria. I'd just as soon pay US workers and know that our product was being made by professionals. If our product is as good as its supposed to be, we could afford it when you consider we're not trying to take over the entire silk market. That's as nonsensical as the "pure spider silk" argument.
