Ruiz and his colleagues believe Intel's monopolistic foul play is what sank AMD's last bid for parity. That was in 2001, when the company had also gained share for five years straight.

LOL, it was the .com bubble burst that sank both AMD and Intel at the time. I remember because Intel came close to reporting a loss for the first time in years. If Intel were the monopoly Hector claims then you would think things would've been much better for Intel at the time.

Just in case you don't remember, take a look at Intel's Q4 earnings in 2001.

Pretty sad for what is supposed to be the best quarter of the year.
