"Uday is not dead, he's resting" Claims Pet Shop Owner

Iraq - The release of graphic photographs of what the United States claims to be the dead bodies of Saddam Hussein's two sons Uday and Qusay were received with cynicism by one pet shop owner in England today.

Mr. Michael Palin, owner of ye olde pet shoppe cast doubt on the claims of President Bush and senior US Military personnel by insisting that Uday Hussein was not dead, just resting.

"I couldn't believe it when the news came out." Mr Palin told us. "I just thought that something strange was going on. I thought to meself, that this was another of those propaganda stunts like the rescue of Jessica Lynch to push bad news off the front pages."

Mr. Palin explained how on seeing the images purported to prove that Uday Hussein is really dead, he immediately telephoned to the White House to complain.

"I got right through to the big cheese, George W. and gave him a piece of my mind." Palin recalled. I made it abundantly clear that Uday was clearly not dead, but pinin' for his former trappings of wealth. I let him know that far from being dead, Uday appeared to have grown a lovely plumage since we last saw him."

Despite protestations from the President that Uday Hussein was really dead, Mr. Palin demanded the right to see the body in the flesh.

"Well I felt quite insulted." Mr. Palin continued "I made the effort to fly over to Iraq to prove that Uday was just stunned by then I found myself accused of moving him meself!"

President Bush rejected the criticisms.

"I am sure all rightminded folks will be reassured that Uday Hussein, like his brother Qusay, really is dead." The President told reporters. "These photographs categorically prove that the old regime is not coming back. Uday has gone. He has passed on. He is no more. He has ceased to be. He has gone to meet his maker. He's a stiff, bereft of life. He has kicked the burqa, shuffled off his mortal coil and joined the bleedin' virgins invisible. THIS IS AN EX-HUSSEIN!!"
