Actually, a one time surprise dividend would work to start a short squeeze. The shorts would have to pay that $3.00 dividend.

I do not know if the number is $3 or $5 or $2, but a sudden dividend announcement, if they sold an asset to pay for it, would probably give the shorts a reason to pause.
