Even if you pay off the preferred shareholders at par, this 20 percent ownership is still very, very valuable. I am not suggesting $20 per share, but to say that these companies are worth only slightly more than the preferred stock cost is highly questionable.
Bear in mind also that the Federal Government will owe the shareholders an enormous refund from the net profit sweep.
Also, I strongly disagree that the motive behind the net profit sweet does not matter. Of course it does; the net profit sweep was instituted because the conservatorship was working TOO well!
